Cinnamon Lake Farm is open for business! After purchasing the farm in 2022, we have been hard at work setting it up as a haven for horses. At the end of a dead end road, backing up to 2000 acres of state land, horses here live a quiet life of attention and care. Cat understands that not every horse can make the switch from pampered show horse to retiree without a little extra care and management. Her specialty is making retired competition horses feel like they are still the center of the world, and is happy to fulfill their special needs. On the other end of the spectrum, Cat loves introducing young horses to work and helping them start their lives happy, cheerful and eager to learn and do.
This picture shows one of our stalls. All stalls will be 12' x 14' to help prevent older horses from getting cast. Rubber mats, or EVA therapeutic mats on the floors. Plenty of deep clean bedding, and big windows for ventilation (don't worry, they close up snug in the winter). Stalls are cleaned multiple times a day as needed for each individual horse.
Our stalls are built with open air between stalls to encourage natural socialization and keep sight lines so our horses feel comforted by their herd. Feed partitions give a "safe" place to eat without sacrificing the open feel. Horses who are on stall rest benefit from the community feeling of the design, and horses that live in and out stay connected with their friends.
Our fields are large and never overcrowded. Small herd size or solo turnout for half the day. (In at night during the winter, in during the day in summer). Cat believes that turnout is fundamental to horsecare, but respects each horse as an individual and will change plans as needed to keep each horse happy and healthy.
Horses are groomed head to toe every day. As a professional groom, Cat is passionate that daily, hands-on attention is the best way to keep horses healthy for a long time. Through this, problems get caught early, horses bond to the people caring for them, and the stimulus of the grooming process promotes circulation and lymphatic drainage, which is vital as our horses age or heal.
In addition to her grooming, Cat worked as a Veterinary Assistant to Dr. Kevin Keane. She is well trained in minor medical care including: leg wrapping, eye care, medication administration, wound care, and post colic care. She will work with the treating vet to follow any and all instructions to the letter.
The reason for the retirement farm. This is Stormy, our 36 year old matriarch. Stormy was Cat's childhood pony's daughter, and they have been together for their entire lives. Cat has kept her happy, healthy and loved and wants to give others the opportunity to see their elder horses reach a ripe old age where they feel loved and cared for every single day.
This option is great for horses with physical limitations, or 3 year olds. The young horse often does better with time between rides
Great for babies or horses who need better ground manners. 3-5 sessions a week depending on owners wants and the horses needs.
This option is best for complete restarts, full under-saddle starts, and competitive horses
Our barn is set up beautifully for rehabilitation board, the roomy stalls and open design allow horses to feel like part of the herd and allow easy laying down.
Do you have a truly special case? A horse that is a management conundrum? Difficult to handle? Requiring extra care and monitoring? Cat is well versed both physical and behavioral problems and is capable of handling most of them. Cat will work to find a solution that creates a safe environment for each individual horse to live the best life they can.
